BBWCC (Basket Weavers and Women’s Cooperative Centre) is a dynamic organization committed to empowering women through sustainable basket weaving. By introducing younger generations to the craft without compromising their formal education, BBWCC ensures cultural preservation and continuity. The cooperative also prioritizes environmental responsibility by using naturally fallen trees and millet straw as firewood for dyeing straw, avoiding deforestation. Recognizing the looming threat to raw material availability, BBWCC has partnered with Dr. Antonio Lopez, an agriculturist from Colombia, to pilot straw cultivation in Ghana’s Upper East and Northern regions—securing the future of the basket industry.
